Konami’s latest Castlevania adventure takes players to monster infested Paris, introducing a new Belmont while bringing back the franchise’s signature whip combat.

After years of waiting for a new mainline style adventure, Castlevania fans finally have another journey into the darkness. Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse officially launched on October 15, 2026, bringing the legendary vampire hunting franchise back with a new 2D action exploration adventure set in medieval Paris.

Developed by KONAMI alongside Evil Empire and Motion Twin, the teams behind Dead Cells, the game blends familiar Castlevania elements with faster movement, new combat options, and a fresh protagonist. It is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Xbox on PC, and Steam.

According to Konami’s official launch announcement, players can now step into the role of Rose Belmont and explore a city threatened by monstrous creatures and a mysterious castle.

A New Belmont Takes Up the Vampire Killer

The story takes place in Paris in 1499, approximately 23 years after the events of Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse. This time, players follow Rose Belmont, the daughter of Trevor Belmont, as she confronts the supernatural threat consuming the city.

Rose inherits the family’s legendary Vampire Killer whip, but she is not limited to simply swinging it at enemies. The weapon also serves as a traversal tool, allowing players to move through environments with greater freedom and approach encounters from different angles.

The setting offers a different atmosphere from the series’ familiar castle focused adventures. Players explore the burning streets of Paris before venturing into Dracula’s castle, encountering monsters, hidden areas, and dangerous bosses along the way.

For longtime fans, the return of the Belmont family provides a connection to the franchise’s history. At the same time, Rose gives the developers room to tell a new story without simply repeating the adventures of previous heroes.

Fast Combat, Exploration, and New Abilities

Belmont’s Curse retains the side scrolling action that helped define Castlevania, but its movement and combat systems aim to make encounters feel more fluid.

The Vampire Killer is central to both exploration and combat. Players can use the whip to navigate areas, reach different platforms, and maintain momentum while fighting enemies. Additional weapons, equipment, and relics offer different ways to approach battles.

One of the game’s notable systems involves the Arcana mechanic. After defeating certain bosses, players can seal them into tarot cards and use their abilities to unlock spells and special actions. This adds another layer of strategy to encounters and gives players more options as they progress.

According to the official game website, the game features multiple weapon categories, relics with offensive and defensive effects, and bosses that include familiar faces such as Death, Medusa, and Carmilla, alongside new threats.

The combination of exploration, equipment choices, and challenging encounters gives the adventure a modern action platformer structure while keeping its gothic identity intact.

The Demo Let Players Start Early

Players did not have to wait until launch day to try the game. Konami released a playable demo on October 1, allowing fans to experience the opening portion of Rose’s adventure.

Better yet, demo save data can carry over into the full game, provided players continue on the same platform and account and retain their demo save. That means players who already started exploring Paris can continue their progress rather than beginning again.

The demo also gave fans an opportunity to experience the updated combat and movement systems before purchasing the complete release.

Details about the demo and save transfer are available in Konami’s official announcement.

Editions and Launch Details

The game launched across current major consoles and PC storefronts, giving players several ways to experience the newest entry.

The standard edition includes the full game. The Midnight Edition adds a digital sound and art gallery featuring 71 tracks, along with three in game bonuses: the Trevor Style Costume, Sypha Style Costume, and Family’s Grace relic.

Players who purchased or preordered an eligible edition early could also receive an Alucard style costume for Rose, according to Konami’s launch information. Availability and eligibility may depend on the edition and storefront.

For the latest platform details and edition information, players can visit the official Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse website.

Early Reviews Point to a Strong, but Imperfect, Return

The launch has also brought the first wave of reviews. In its review of Belmont’s Curse, The Guardian praised the game’s gothic presentation, demanding combat, and inventive encounters. The review also noted that some combat sections and exploration elements feel less consistent than the game’s strongest moments.

That feedback suggests Belmont’s Curse has plenty to offer players who enjoy challenging action platformers, although it may not satisfy everyone equally. Its fast paced fights and demanding platforming could be a highlight for some players and a hurdle for others.

The game’s launch is especially notable as Castlevania celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2026. A new release gives the franchise an opportunity to introduce its world to another generation while giving longtime fans a fresh adventure to explore.

Final Thoughts

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse marks an exciting new chapter for one of gaming’s most recognizable gothic franchises.
