Sega’s kart racer is expanding its crossover lineup in a big way, adding six premium DLC packs, new gameplay features, and a permanent price cut.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is gearing up for an ambitious second year, and SEGA is bringing together some unexpected names from gaming, anime, and pop culture. The company has unveiled its Year Two roadmap, confirming six premium crossover packs, additional free content, new racing features, and a permanent price reduction for the base game.

Year Two officially begins on November 3, 2026, with the first DLC pack featuring the legendary monster Godzilla. Future updates will introduce content inspired by Evangelion, Hello Kitty, Final Fantasy VII, and the Persona series, alongside a celebration of SEGA’s own gaming history.

The announcement gives players plenty to look forward to, whether they are longtime Sonic fans or newcomers interested in the game’s growing collection of crossover characters.

Six Crossover Packs Are Coming in Year Two

SEGA has confirmed six premium DLC packs for the second year of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. Each pack will bring themed content to the racing game, although some of the later releases still have details to be revealed.

Here is the current roadmap.

Godzilla Pack: November 3, 2026

The first pack launches alongside the start of Year Two and brings Godzilla into the racing world. Players can look forward to a course called Godzilla Escape, featuring the iconic monster attacking the City Escape setting from Sonic Adventure 2.

The pack will also include three themed machines: Godzilla Cruiser, King Ghidorah Coupe, and Mothra Surf. Additional music tracks and sound effects are included as well.

It is a fitting way to kick off the new season, bringing kaiju chaos to a franchise already known for its unpredictable tracks and over the top racing action.

EVANGELION Pack: January 2027

The second DLC pack will feature the popular anime franchise Evangelion. The pack includes the Tokyo III course and two playable racers, Rei Ayanami and Asuka Shikinami Langley.

Players will also receive three machines inspired by the franchise’s iconic units: EVA 01 (TEST TYPE), EVA 00 (PROTO TYPE), and EVA 02 (PRODUCTION MODEL). Music tracks, character emotes, and additional sounds will round out the package.

The crossover could be a major draw for anime fans, particularly those who want to see the series’ distinctive visual style represented in a colorful racing game.

Virtual Sanrio Puroland Pack: Q2 2027

The third pack takes a much different direction with a crossover featuring Sanrio characters Hello Kitty and Kuromi.

The DLC will introduce a Virtual Sanrio Puroland course alongside the Hello Kitty Apple Kart and Kuromi Charming Cruiser. As with the other crossover packs, additional music and character emotes are planned.

The contrast between Sanrio’s cute character designs and the competitive chaos of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds could make this one of the roadmap’s most distinctive additions.

SEGALAND Pack: Q3 2027

SEGA is also turning toward its own history with the SEGALAND pack. This release will celebrate classic SEGA arcade experiences through a dedicated course and three themed machines: After Burner, OutRun, and Super Megalo.

Additional music tracks and sounds are also included.

For longtime SEGA fans, this pack offers an opportunity to revisit the company’s arcade legacy in a new setting.

Midgar Pack: Q3 2027

The fifth pack, currently carrying the working title Midgar Pack, will draw from the Final Fantasy VII Remake series.

SEGA has confirmed that the release will include one course, two racers, one machine, music tracks, character emotes, and additional sounds. Specific character identities and further details have not yet been fully revealed.

Reload Revival Royal Pack: Q4 2027

The final announced pack will bring content from the Persona series to Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds.

The Reload Revival Royal Pack is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2027 and is set to include one course, two racers, two machines, music tracks, character emotes, and additional sounds.

With the Final Fantasy VII and Persona collaborations arriving later in the year, SEGA is clearly planning to keep the crossover lineup expanding well beyond the initial November update.

Free Characters and New Racing Features

The paid crossover packs are only part of the Year Two plans. SEGA is also introducing free characters and gameplay updates for the wider player base.

Bayonetta will join the roster on November 3, available to unlock through Rival Duel matches. Later in November, a McLaren Racing collaboration will introduce a Speed type machine modeled after the real racing car, driven by Sonic in McLaren’s Papaya and Anthracite colors.

Aigis from Persona 3 Reload is also scheduled to arrive as a free character in early 2027, accompanied by her Palladion Dressy machine.

These additions will be supported by themed Festival events. Players can participate in the limited time events to earn bonus rewards, with new Festivals running for ten consecutive days and selected fan favorite events returning for shorter periods.

Duel Mode Adds One on One Competition

One of the biggest gameplay additions is Duel Mode, which introduces one on one racing.

The mode emphasizes item strategy and a new Duel Boost mechanic. Players build up a boost gauge over time and through frequent item usage, allowing them to unleash bursts of speed at important moments. Racers can also see information about their opponent’s items, gadgets, and position, adding another layer of strategy to each encounter.

Duel Mode will offer several ways to compete:

  • Rival Duel Match: Battle computer controlled rivals offline and earn rewards by defeating them all.
  • Duel Match: Race against random opponents online.
  • Best of 10: Take part in limited time online events with special rules, rankings, and medal rewards.
  • Friend Match: Challenge friends using customizable race rules, items, and CrossWorlds.

The update will also expand the gadget system. A new Grand Master Plate will add a seventh Super Slot for one slot gadgets, giving selected gadgets an even stronger boosted effect when placed there. Fifteen new gadgets are planned for the beginning of Year Two, with more expected in future updates.

Another quality of life improvement will allow post launch characters, including both free and paid DLC racers, to appear as computer controlled opponents in online and offline modes.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Gets a Permanent Price Cut

Alongside the content roadmap, SEGA has permanently reduced the game’s price, making it more affordable for players who have been waiting to jump in.

EditionPrevious priceNew price
Standard Edition$69.99$39.99
Digital Deluxe Edition$89.99$59.99

The second Season Pass is also available for $29.99. It covers the six premium DLC packs and includes bonus SEGA controller decals and console themed machines as they become available.

SEGA is also offering a Year Two Digital Deluxe Edition for $59.99, which includes the base game and Season Pass Two. However, existing owners should take care before purchasing this edition because it includes another copy of the standard game.

Players who own both Season Pass One and Season Pass Two will also receive Super Shadow and the Super Dark Flare machine as bonus content.

Is Year Two Enough to Bring More Players Into the Race?

The combination of a permanent price reduction, free characters, gameplay improvements, and an extensive DLC schedule gives Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds a substantial second year ahead.

The crossover lineup is especially ambitious. Godzilla and Evangelion offer dramatic, action focused additions, while Hello Kitty and Kuromi bring a very different aesthetic to the track. The planned Final Fantasy VII and Persona packs could also attract players who might not otherwise consider a Sonic racing game.

The important question is how well SEGA can maintain that momentum throughout 2027. The first updates arrive in November, but several of the most anticipated collaborations are still months away. The quality of the new courses, the balance of the additional racers, and the long term appeal of Duel Mode will all help determine whether the roadmap keeps players coming back.

The lower entry price is a welcome move for newcomers, especially with more free content planned alongside the paid expansions. Players who already own the game can look forward to the new racing features without needing to purchase every crossover pack.

For now, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds has a packed schedule ahead, and Year Two looks set to make its racing roster even more unpredictable.
