HoYoverse’s latest Special Program reveals two new S Rank Agents, a major story update, new gameplay features, and a crossover fans have been waiting to see.

The latest Zenless Zone Zero livestream has officially wrapped up, and HoYoverse has plenty of new content planned for Proxies. Version 3.3, titled “Journey to the Sky,” is bringing two new S Rank Agents, additional story chapters, new events, quality of life improvements, and a surprising crossover with Honkai: Star Rail.

The Special Program aired on October 9, 2026, giving players their first detailed look at the upcoming update. Among the biggest announcements are Phoenix, an S Rank Fire Anomaly Agent, and Severian Lowell, an S Rank Wind Attack Agent. HoYoverse also revealed that players will be able to pilot combat mechs during the main story, with the feature continuing into future versions.

However, the biggest surprise may be the confirmation that Kafka and Robin from Honkai: Star Rail are heading to New Eridu in Version 3.4.

Here is everything you need to know from the Version 3.3 Special Program.

Zenless Zone Zero Version 3.3 Release Date

Version 3.3, Journey to the Sky, is scheduled to launch on October 21, 2026. The update continues the story surrounding Roscaelifer and the mysterious sky island of Booastrum, with new conflicts emerging around Quietude Isle.

According to HoYoverse’s presentation, Phoenix and Severian will play major roles in the upcoming story. Their differing approaches to justice and order will add another layer to the growing conflict, while the Proxies and Lindverne investigate the mystery of the three Sunbringers and their Karma Cores.

The update will also introduce new outfits, returning Agents, seasonal content, limited time events, and additional rewards for players.

Phoenix Is the First New S Rank Agent

The first major character reveal is Phoenix, an S Rank Fire Anomaly Agent associated with the Krampus Compliance Authority.

Phoenix serves as the organization’s second in command in combat. Her fighting style revolves around applying pressure to enemies and turning their resistance into an opportunity to become even more dangerous.

Her Core Skill, Nirvana, allows her to burn enemies affected by an Anomaly. Subsequent Anomaly damage against those enemies can then trigger critical hits, giving her a distinctive role in teams built around Anomaly damage.

Phoenix also has a particularly unusual survival mechanic. After taking a fatal hit, she can activate Rebirth, revive at full health, and return to the fight.

That combination of Anomaly focused damage and an additional chance to survive could make Phoenix an interesting option for players who enjoy aggressive combat and elemental team compositions.

Her debut will include her signature S Rank W Engine, Plume of Rebirth. She will also receive new outfits during the update, including a limited time bundle offering a 30% discount when both of her outfits are purchased together.

Severian Lowell Brings Wind Damage and Counterattacks

The second new Agent is Severian Lowell, an S Rank Wind Attack Agent and senior commissioner at New Eridu Public Security.

Severian’s combat style emphasizes dodging incoming attacks and responding with powerful counterattacks. His Core Skill, Endless Breeze, allows him to automatically evade incoming attacks and use the momentum from successful dodges to retaliate.

Successful dodges and skill based attacks also build Energy, allowing Severian to unleash consecutive slashes against his enemies.

His playstyle could appeal to players who prefer fast, reactive combat rather than simply trading blows with opponents. His ability to evade attacks and respond with offensive pressure also gives him a distinct identity compared with Phoenix’s Anomaly focused mechanics.

Severian will arrive with his signature S Rank W Engine, Incarcerating Grip. His everyday uniform, titled Solemnly Impeccable, will also become available in the store during the second half of Version 3.3.

Version 3.3 Banner Schedule and Reruns

Alongside the two new Agents, Version 3.3 will feature returning characters and their associated equipment.

The announced lineup includes:

First half

  • Phoenix
  • Velina Airgrid rerun
  • Phoenix’s signature W Engine, Plume of Rebirth
  • Joyau Dore W Engine rerun

Second half

  • Severian Lowell
  • Norma Hollowell rerun
  • Severian’s signature W Engine, Incarcerating Grip
  • Chief Sidekick W Engine rerun

These banners provide returning players with another opportunity to obtain Velina and Norma while introducing two new Agents to the roster.

Players who are saving Polychromes should pay attention to the distinction between the two phases. If both new characters appeal to you, it may be worth waiting for more gameplay demonstrations and team testing before deciding how to spend your resources.

Mech Combat Is Coming to Zenless Zone Zero

One of the most surprising announcements from the livestream is a new mech combat system integrated into the main story.

During the upcoming story, Lindverne will use her Karma Core ability, Genesis Reconstruction, to create combat mechs associated with High Ambitions Corp. Players will be able to pilot these machines against enemies rather than relying exclusively on their usual Agent combat.

The mechs feature interchangeable melee and ranged attack modes, allowing players to approach encounters in different ways. They can also unleash powerful laser attacks after using an EX Special Attack or successfully dodging an enemy.

Environmental interactions will be part of the experience, too. Players can shoot explosive objects, use heavy punches to launch large objects, and interact with the environment during both combat and puzzle solving.

The most exciting detail is that this mechanic will not be limited to Version 3.3’s story. HoYoverse confirmed that mech gameplay will remain available in future versions, suggesting that the system could become a recurring part of the game’s combat and exploration.

This is a notable change for Zenless Zone Zero, which has primarily focused on switching between Agents and building team based combat rotations. It will be interesting to see how HoYoverse expands the system after its debut.

Zenless Zone Zero x Honkai: Star Rail Crossover Confirmed

The livestream’s biggest surprise arrived when HoYoverse revealed the characters involved in the upcoming crossover between Zenless Zone Zero and Honkai: Star Rail.

Kafka and Robin are coming to Zenless Zone Zero in Version 3.4.

The reveal featured official artwork showing both characters redesigned to fit the visual style of New Eridu. While the crossover has now been confirmed, HoYoverse has not yet revealed their full combat kits, attributes, specialties, or exact release schedule.

That means players should hold off on making assumptions about whether Kafka will be an Anomaly Agent or Robin will serve as a support character until more official details become available.

The collaboration will also work in the opposite direction. Honkai: Star Rail is expected to receive Astra Yao and Ellen Joe in Version 4.8, bringing characters from Zenless Zone Zero into the turn based RPG.

This two way crossover is a major moment for HoYoverse’s connected game portfolio. It also creates an opportunity for fans of both games to see familiar characters reimagined in different combat systems.

For now, Version 3.4 is the announced destination for Kafka and Robin, but the exact date and details of their playable releases remain unconfirmed.

New Story Content Continues the Roscaelifer Mystery

Version 3.3 will continue the ongoing story around Roscaelifer, with Quietude Isle becoming a key location in the conflict.

Access to Booastrum has been restricted, leaving the occupied skyport of Quietude Isle as the available route back. Phoenix and Severian will be drawn into the developing situation despite their different approaches to maintaining order.

Meanwhile, the Proxies and Lindverne will investigate the mystery surrounding the three Sunbringers and their Karma Cores.

These developments suggest that the story will continue building on the game’s recent shift toward sky islands, new factions, and mysteries surrounding the world beyond New Eridu.

The introduction of Phoenix and Severian also gives the narrative two new perspectives to explore. Their involvement could create tension between the authorities and the other groups operating in Roscaelifer, particularly as the truth behind the Karma Cores becomes clearer.

New Events and Rewards

As usual, Version 3.3 will include several limited time events alongside its main story content.

Night of Supernatural Tricks

This event brings a supernatural themed celebration to Lumina Square, with businesses across the area participating in the festivities.

Spooky Funhouse Tales

The HIA Club will introduce a new virtual reality game in which players drive different Trickmobiles and scare away unwanted visitors.

Rewards include an Angels of Delusion outfit, a new A Rank W Engine, and additional Proxy accessories.

Cyber Miracle Healer, on Duty!

Players will be tasked with repairing malfunctioning Bangboo after they accidentally consume toxic chips.

Trails of the Hobbling Crow

This activity focuses on tracking down the culprit responsible for attacking Crowe.

Repair! Drifting Art

Players will recover and reassemble fragments of paintings lost at sea.

The familiar Area Patrol and Combat Simulation double drop events will also return, giving players more opportunities to collect resources and strengthen their Agents.

Enigma of the Labyrinth Receives a New Season

The permanent Hollow exploration, combat, and extraction mode Enigma of the Labyrinth will receive a new seasonal update called Spooky Trial.

The activity features a three round progressive challenge issued by Master Devil, a Devilboo instructor who will test players’ abilities.

During the trials, players can earn Candle Cores and compare offers from shops owned by friends or members of their Outpost group.

For players who enjoy the game’s permanent modes, this update offers another reason to return after completing the main story and limited time events.

Quality of Life Improvements

Version 3.3 is not only about new characters and events. HoYoverse is also making changes intended to help players understand team building and combat mechanics.

Fairy will receive a team recommendation feature that suggests lineups, strategies, and basic combat instructions based on the Agents a player owns.

Players will be able to apply recommended team compositions to preset configurations with a single click. Selected Agents will also receive dedicated tutorial videos to explain their abilities and combat mechanics.

Additional guidance will appear during squad configuration for certain permanent combat modes. The system will provide challenge tips based on the number of deployed Agents, character enhancement progress, and team synergy, with shortcuts to relevant guides.

HoYoverse is also improving how Inter-Knot Reputation promotion benefits and progression reminders are displayed.

These changes could be especially helpful for newer players who are still learning how to assemble effective teams or decide which Agents to upgrade.

Free Rewards: Livestream Code

As part of the Special Program, HoYoverse released a limited time redemption code.

Final Thoughts

The Version 3.3 Special Program has given Zenless Zone Zero players plenty to look forward to. Phoenix and Severian introduce two new S Rank Agents with very different combat styles, while the addition of mech gameplay could open the door to new experiences beyond the game’s traditional Agent based combat.

The new story content will continue the mystery surrounding Roscaelifer and the Karma Cores, while the seasonal activities, new outfits, and quality of life improvements provide more reasons to return to New Eridu.

However, the biggest announcement is undoubtedly the Honkai: Star Rail crossover. Kafka and Robin joining Zenless Zone Zero is an exciting development, particularly for players who follow both games. Their full kits and release details remain a mystery, but the reveal has already given fans something substantial to speculate about.

Version 3.3 launches on October 21, 2026, and the next chapter of the story looks set to bring meaningful changes to the game’s world and combat.
