Introduction

Vodyanitsa is a five-star Hydro Catalyst character introduced in Genshin Impact Version 7.1. Unlike Vesna, who is designed to spend extended time on the field dealing damage, Vodyanitsa is a support and healer who strengthens Hydro, Cryo, and Stellar Swirl teams.

Her kit revolves around Max HP. By stacking HP, Vodyanitsa improves her damage buffs, healing, and overall support value. She also provides resistance reduction and interruption resistance, making her a flexible teammate for several different playstyles. The key to building her is straightforward: prioritize HP, equip support-focused artifacts, and use her Elemental Skill to establish her buffs before switching to your main damage dealer.

Understanding Vodyanitsa’s Playstyle

Vodyanitsa is designed to provide support without demanding much field time. Her Elemental Skill deals periodic Hydro damage, heals the active character, and reduces nearby enemies’ Hydro and Cryo RES. When Stellar Swirl is triggered while she is on the team, her passive also provides Anemo RES reduction and additional support for Stellar Swirl damage.

Her kit has two main support routes. The first focuses on Hydro and Cryo damage dealers, including Freeze teams. The second is built around Stellar Swirl, where she helps improve the reaction’s damage and supports Anemo-oriented lineups.

Because her Burst does not meaningfully increase her support buffs in her main teams, Vodyanitsa generally does not need to prioritize Energy Recharge. Instead, her build should focus on reaching the HP thresholds that maximize her passives.

Best Weapon for Vodyanitsa

Vodyanitsa’s signature Catalyst, Hymn of the Maelstrom, is her best-in-slot option. Its HP-focused benefits complement her scaling and help her reach the threshold required to maximize her support effects.

However, Vodyanitsa has an unusually accessible alternative: Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers. This three-star Catalyst can provide a substantial ATK buff to the next character switched onto the field, making it especially useful for ATK-scaling carries. Since Vodyanitsa already provides healing and resistance reduction, she can contribute considerable team value without needing an expensive weapon.

Other HP-focused options include Prototype Amber, Jadefall’s Splendor, and Everlasting Moonglow. Prototype Amber is useful if you want additional team healing and some Energy restoration, although its Burst-related benefits are less important for her standard support role.

Best Artifact Sets

Four-piece Tenacity of the Millelith is Vodyanitsa’s standard support set. Its two-piece effect increases HP, helping her approach her desired HP target. The four-piece effect increases nearby party members’ ATK when her Elemental Skill hits enemies, which is particularly helpful for ATK-scaling carries.

If you are struggling to reach her HP target, two-piece Tenacity of the Millelith + two-piece Vourukasha’s Glow is a practical alternative. Both sets provide HP bonuses, allowing you to prioritize her passive scaling rather than chasing a four-piece effect.

For Freeze teams, four-piece Song of Days Past is another option. It converts healing into additional damage for the active character, providing value when another teammate is already using Tenacity or when you prefer to emphasize her healing utility.

For newer accounts, four-piece Instructor can provide Elemental Mastery to the team after triggering an Elemental Reaction. However, because it is a four-star set, the lower HP potential makes it a temporary option rather than an ideal endgame build.

Best Artifact Main Stats

Vodyanitsa’s recommended main stats are simple:

ArtifactMain stat
SandsHP%
GobletHP%
CircletHP%

Her buffs scale with Max HP, so all three main stats should generally focus on increasing that value. A Healing Bonus Circlet is an option if you specifically need more healing, but it sacrifices some of the HP that strengthens her support effects.

For substats, prioritize HP%, followed by flat HP. Energy Recharge is a secondary consideration if you want to use her Burst regularly, but it is not a necessary investment for her typical support rotations.

Vodyanitsa’s HP Goal

A major build milestone is 65,000 Max HP. Her HP-scaling support bonuses improve as her Max HP increases, with this figure serving as the recommended target for maximizing those effects.

During early farming, aim for approximately 60,000 HP and improve your artifacts over time. Once you approach 65,000, you can focus on other useful stats or simply keep the build as it is.

Unlike a conventional DPS, Vodyanitsa does not need to balance CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG to maximize her primary role. Her personal damage is comparatively unimportant, so investing in offensive stats generally provides less value than improving her HP-based buffs.

Best Teams for Vodyanitsa

Vodyanitsa is flexible, but her strongest teams generally fall into two categories: Stellar Swirl teams and Hydro or Cryo damage teams. Her exact role changes depending on whether the team is using her Anemo resistance reduction and Stellar Swirl support or her Hydro and Cryo buffs.

1. Vesna + Vodyanitsa + Cryo Traveler + Odette

Role: Stellar Swirl team

This lineup is built around Vesna’s on-field damage and Vodyanitsa’s reaction support. Cryo Traveler helps establish Cryo for Stellar Swirl, while Odette contributes additional damage and support from off-field.

Vodyanitsa’s healing makes the team more comfortable to play, while her Anemo RES reduction and Stellar Swirl support help Vesna capitalize on the reaction. This is a natural pairing for players who pulled both new five-star characters in Version 7.1.

How to play: Begin with Vodyanitsa’s Skill, then set up Cryo Traveler and Odette’s abilities. Switch to Vesna after the supports are ready, and use her enhanced-state sequence while the team’s effects are active.

2. Vesna + Vodyanitsa + Faruzan + Cryo Traveler

Role: Anemo-focused Stellar Swirl team

Faruzan offers additional Anemo support, making her a possible alternative to Odette depending on the buffs and damage profile you want. Cryo Traveler remains important for establishing the elemental setup, while Vodyanitsa supplies healing and resistance reduction.

This team is particularly interesting for players who already have Faruzan built and want to emphasize Anemo damage alongside Stellar Swirl. It also gives Vodyanitsa a clear role as the team’s sustain and reaction support.

How to play: Set up Faruzan’s buffs and Cryo application first, then use Vodyanitsa’s Skill before bringing Vesna on field. Pay attention to buff durations so Vesna’s longer damage sequence does not outlast the team’s support effects.

3. Skirk + Vodyanitsa + Escoffier + Furina

Role: Freeze

Vodyanitsa can also support Cryo carries such as Skirk. Her Hydro application enables Freeze, while her healing and Cryo damage buffs support the team’s main damage dealer.

Escoffier can help maintain elemental application and apply provide Cryo RES shred, while Furina provides Hydro application and damage buffs. The final slot depends on whether you need more damage, energy, or defensive utility.

This is a useful option for players who want to use Vodyanitsa outside Stellar Swirl and already have a developed Freeze roster.

How to play: Apply Cryo and set up your Anemo support before using Vodyanitsa’s Skill. Switch to Skirk when the team’s buffs and Hydro application are ready, and maintain the Freeze setup throughout her damage window.

Talent Priority

Vodyanitsa’s Elemental Skill is her most important talent because it provides her core healing, Hydro application, and resistance reduction.

Her Elemental Burst is much less important for her usual support role, and her Normal Attack can generally be left unleveled.

Recommended priority:

  1. Elemental Skill
  2. Elemental Burst
  3. Normal Attack

Focus your materials on the Skill first. You can invest in her Burst later if you use it frequently, but it should not take priority over the ability that enables most of her support value.

How to Play Vodyanitsa

Vodyanitsa is designed for low field time. In most teams, her rotation is straightforward: switch her in, activate her Elemental Skill, and then swap to the next support or main DPS.

Her Skill periodically deals Hydro damage, heals the active character, and applies her resistance reduction effects. In Stellar Swirl teams, make sure the reaction is triggered while she is in the party so her Anemo support effects can activate.

Her Burst can be used when convenient, but it is not a requirement for her main support loop. Avoid extending her field time just to use it if doing so delays your primary damage dealer.

Common Build Mistakes

The most common mistake is building Vodyanitsa like a conventional Hydro DPS. CRIT stats, Hydro DMG Bonus, and offensive weapons are not the focus of her support build. Her buffs are based on Max HP, so an HP-focused setup is much more effective.

Another mistake is overinvesting in Energy Recharge. Since her Burst is not central to her support value, you can often skip ER entirely and put those artifact substats into HP instead.

Finally, don’t assume that every team benefits from the same version of her support. Stellar Swirl teams want her Anemo support effects, while Freeze and Hydro teams want her Hydro/Cryo buffs and resistance reduction. Choose her teammates with that distinction in mind.

Final Thoughts

Vodyanitsa is a support character whose value comes from making her teammates stronger rather than dealing damage herself. Her HP-based buffs, healing, and resistance reduction give her a place in both Stellar Swirl teams and established Hydro or Cryo lineups.

For most players, the build is refreshingly simple: use Hymn of the Maelstrom if available, otherwise consider Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers, equip four-piece Tenacity of the Millelith, and prioritize HP until you approach 65,000. Her Elemental Skill is the key talent, and her Burst can remain a low priority.

The biggest decision is how you want to use her. Pair her with Vesna and Cryo teammates to support Stellar Swirl, or slot her into a Freeze or Hydro team to take advantage of her elemental buffs and healing. Either way, building her around HP and keeping her field time low will let her do what she was designed to do.
