Heads up, PS4 players – HoYoVerse has officially announced that Genshin Impact support on PS4 is winding down, and it’s happening quicker than we expected. Here’s your roadmap for the shutdown, what to do next, and how to ensure your progress survives the journey.
The Three Phases of PS4 Sunset
Genshin Impact’s PS4 version will be phased out in three steps:
- September 10, 2025
Genshin Impact will be removed from the PlayStation Store. If you’ve downloaded it at any point, you can still reinstall it from your library afterward. Just don’t delete it without a copy saved somewhere. - February 25, 2026
All in-game purchases will be disabled; you won’t be able to buy Genesis Crystals, Battle Passes, or any shop items on PS4 (from either the in-game or PS Store). - April 8, 2026
The final shutdown: after this date, no more updates and no more logging into Genshin on PS4. The game becomes completely inaccessible.
Why This Is Happening
HoYoVerse cites hardware limitations and the application size growing too big for the PS4’s system architecture. They argue these factors make it unfeasible to continue updating and supporting the game on that platform.
Recently, other live-service games have also begun leaving the PS4 scene as developers pivot to newer platforms.
What You Should Do Next
- Bind your account now (if you haven’t already): Head to Paimon Menu → Settings → Account → User Center and link your PSN account with an email or QR code. This ensures you can continue your account on PS5, PC, or mobile.
- Download the game now: If you still have Genshin in your library, redownload it so it’s saved on your account. After September 10, only players who already have it can reinstall via Library.
Final Thoughts
It’s the end of an era; the PS4 journey for Genshin Impact is wrapping up. But nothing’s truly lost if you act now. Just bind your account, grab the game before it vanishes, and carry on the adventure from your next-gen console, PC, or mobile device.
