It’s not just a rumor anymore—Elden Ring is headed to Hollywood. A live-action film adaptation of FromSoftware’s legendary RPG is officially in development, and here’s everything we know so far.

From the Lands Between… to the Big Screen

Elden Ring’s world is vast, eerie, and beautifully incomprehensible—so naturally, it was only a matter of time before someone tried to bring it to life outside of gaming. According to multiple reports (including a scoop from The Verge and Polygon), Bandai Namco is teaming up with A24—yep, the studio behind films like Hereditary, Uncut Gems, and Everything Everywhere All at Once—to produce the movie.

But the big news? Alex Garland, the filmmaker behind Ex Machina and Annihilation, is set to direct. If anyone can turn the cryptic storytelling and quiet dread of Elden Ring into a meaningful cinematic experience, it’s him.

What We (Don’t) Know About the Story

The story details are, unsurprisingly, being kept under wraps. That makes sense—Elden Ring isn’t exactly known for spelling things out. Players had to piece together the lore through item descriptions, obscure dialogue, and pure trial-and-error. Will the movie do the same?

What’s confirmed is that George R.R. Martin, who helped craft the game’s mythos, is involved in some capacity. That could mean a movie leaning more into the foundational lore of the Erdtree, the demigods, and the shattering of the Elden Ring—rather than trying to replicate a single player’s journey.

Honestly, that’s a good call. Elden Ring is as much about atmosphere and implication as it is about clear narrative. A faithful adaptation doesn’t mean recreating boss fights—it means capturing that sense of loss, ambition, and weird beauty that defines the Lands Between.

Should We Be Worried?

Video game movies are… historically cursed. But things have been looking up lately. The Last of Us set a new bar for storytelling in adaptations, and Garland is not the kind of director who phones it in. Combine that with A24’s reputation for stylish, emotionally driven stories, and we might be getting something that doesn’t just feel like Elden Ring, but also expands it.

That said, if they cut out Torrent, we riot.

Final Thoughts

The Elden Ring movie is real, it’s happening, and it’s got some serious talent behind it. Whether you’re in it for the lore, the vibes, or just hoping to see Malenia’s full bloom in live action (good luck to the effects team), there’s a lot to be excited—and nervous—about.

As always, we’ll be watching this one closely.
