Get ready, Vault Hunters! Gearbox Software is back with the next entry in its iconic looter-shooter series, Borderlands 4. Set to drop in 2025, this game promises to crank up everything fans love—over-the-top action, bizarre characters, and an endless stream of crazy weapons—all while throwing in some exciting new twists.
While we don’t have an exact release date yet, Borderlands 4 is confirmed for 2025. It’s coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, so if you’ve already got your hands on one of these platforms, you’re good to go. Given the buzz, we’re expecting a launch sometime in the second half of the year—plenty of time to clear your schedule.
If you’ve played Borderlands before, you already know the deal: it’s a first-person shooter loaded with RPG elements, wild guns, and mayhem. But Borderlands 4 is shaking things up by introducing a seamless open world. Yup, no more loading screens breaking the action as you explore its brand-new setting.
Traversal is getting a serious upgrade, too. A grappling hook and new vehicles will give you fresh ways to get around and tackle enemies. And whether you prefer rolling solo or teaming up with friends, you’ll have the option to play alone or with up to three other players in co-op mode.
This time, the action moves to a completely new planet called Kairos. It’s described as a high-tech world with a retro-futuristic vibe—think neon-lit cities mixed with gritty, rundown wastelands. You’ll play as a Vault Hunter leading a rebellion against a brutal dictator known as the Timekeeper, who’s got an army of synthetic soldiers called the Order backing him up.
Of course, it wouldn’t be Borderlands without some alien treasure involved. Expect plenty of twists, outrageous characters, and humor as you fight to take down the Timekeeper and uncover the secrets of Kairos.
Gearbox has been working on Borderlands 4 since before Borderlands 3 even dropped in 2019. This time around, they’re going all-in on making the world feel bigger and more connected. That’s why they’ve ditched the more segmented maps of the past games in favor of a fully open world.
One interesting note? The humor in Borderlands 4 is going to feel more natural and tied to what’s happening in the game. Instead of forcing jokes, Gearbox wants the funny moments to come from your interactions and gameplay. That’s a cool shift that should make the experience feel more organic.
The hype train for Borderlands 4 left the station as soon as the game’s teaser trailer dropped at The Game Awards 2024. The trailer gave us a glimpse of the game’s signature art style, explosive combat, and some intriguing story hints. Fans are already buzzing about what’s next for the franchise and how Gearbox plans to top Borderlands 3.
What’s really got people talking is the promise of even more crazy weapons and gadgets to play around with. If there’s one thing Borderlands always delivers, it’s a ridiculous arsenal, and we’re expecting Borderlands 4 to be no different.
There’s a lot riding on Borderlands 4, but from everything we’ve seen so far, it looks like Gearbox is ready to deliver. Whether you’re a longtime fan of the series or a newcomer curious about all the hype, this game is shaping up to be one of the biggest releases of 2025. So, dust off your favorite Vault Hunter cosplay and get ready for another wild ride—this one’s going to be epic.
